The Space Marine figure was missing from my box’s random assortment of poses.

Defence Cuts from 100 figures for £1 down to 50 for £1 – still good value!
This slow dropping of figure numbers per £1 has been going down steadily over two years, reported here:

Funtastic now become TXA Cyber Combat. What a great HQ address & PO Box number to have.
It’s like the Third Doctor Who’s UNIT friends have moved to Willenhall.

Formerly ‘Epic Battles’ – increasingly tiny EpicBattles … Batallas epicas!
Epics – getting smaller with austerity cuts all the time.
Historians of Plastic Tat packaging will value this visual record.
I have noticed that the plastic is slightly harder or tougher, more game token and less flexible than before.
Update: the Germans are now blue, not silver. The space pilot figure does exist!
Other sources and suppliers
At a recent seaside store I found the ‘older’ Combat Force 100 figures in handy two colour pack of traditional green and tan 32mm-ish figures for £2.

Just noticed the MISSION ‘red ink stamp / dripping blood’ crossover font …
All still good 32mm figures, ripe for paint or scalpel conversion, as shown on some of my previous posts, for example:

The price of war these days. Scandalous! 😉

War – or Cyber Combat – and Alien Defence – twice the price it used to be. Tell that to the Martians in War of the Worlds!

Ha! A short sighted policy given the recent events on TV. SO, yes – I’ve been watching that on TV. Curiously, entirely coincidentally, I’ve been listening in recent weeks to Jeff Wayne’s musical version and my daughter has been reading it at school.

I have a blogpost on War Of The Worlds due in the next few days, recreating it very cheaply using H G Wells Type Little Wars figures and War of the Worlds on the cheap (BBC please note. No expensive CGI required). There is an even cheaper unpainted Airfix version.
The Jeff Wayne (original) is very evocative, very 1970s concept album but Richard Burton is great for the narration part. Surprisingly chilling in parts. He’s quite good at the start of Zulu too.
What a great book to study at school. Conan Doyle’s The Lost World is good also.

I am very much looking forward to that post. Cheaper and no doubt better than the BBC version.
Oh – got it wrong about the school project. It’s The Time Machine they’re studying. We were talking about a book I had as a boy which combined both HG Wells stories in one volume, so I must have got confused.
The Lost World was another of my childhood adventure story favourites alongside Rider Haggard;s King Solomon’s Mines.
